Nextbase Dual Display DVD player

CES 2007 - In-car entertainment systems are definitely important especially when you have a couple of kids sitting at the back on a long road trip. The PSP and DS Lite batteries can only last so long, so what better way to keep them from causing a ruckus than playing their favorite DVDs? Hot off Nextbase's oven, the SDV 685 model comes with dual 7" displays as shown above. The unit on the left is the main unit, while the slave unit is on the right. These dual displays solve the problem of squabbling children as they fight to get the best seat in the house...er, car. Each purchase comes with a remote control. You can also purchase an optional IR headphones for your kids so that you need not listen to Barney singing "I Love You" for the umpteenth time. Pricing details are currently unavailable as at press time.

Really good picture quality but I found it distorts the picture by stretching it horizontally. I couldn't find anyting in the Setup Menu to adjust this. I had to distort all my Divx movies by 1:1.287 Horz:Vert to get the correct aspect ratio. If using the USB you must use a pend drive that plugs directly into the player, using a cable just doesn't seem to work. Make sure the pen drive doesn't have a prominent light because this will be flashing away on the left side of the screen all through the movie. The speakers are a bit tinny and powerless, it's best to use headphones. The infrared Nextbase headphones worked OK but with a lot of background noise, presuamably from the headphones's amplifier; it's probably best to use corded headphones (it comes with in-ear headset but these aren't much use for children).
