Single-pixel camera more efficient

The megapixel race in digital compact cameras are pretty much over, which is why researchers in the U.S. are currently working on a single-pixel camera that captures images in high-quality that are comparable to current high megapixel cameras. The prototype looks like a classic pinhole camera that comes in the size of a suitcase, but rest assured that miniaturization will work its wonders in due time to produce a much smaller and more manageable size which targets the consumer's wallets. This single-pixel camera aims to weed out the inefficiencies of current cameras by reflecting light from an object off an array off mirrors, through a second lens, and straight on to a single pixel photo-detector. In a nutshell, this new camera uses a single expensive sensor in lieu of a million really expensive sensors to create a similar million-pixel image.
