Vertical Mouse 2 debuts
Posted on Jan 23, 07 08:26 AM PDT

We all know how ergonomics are the in thing these days as hardware manufacturers realized that throwing in three buttons and a scroll wheel into an optical mouse alone just won't make the cut. The Vertical Mouse 2 works quite unlike the conventional mouse, featuring buttons that are positioned in a handshake manner. You hold the mouse very much the same way as a joystick, which explains the contours on its body. If you're concerned about preventing RSI and picking up carpal tunnel syndrome during your working years, the Vertical Mouse 2 can be yours for approximately $63 after conversion. The learning curve would take some time, so be warned beforehand.

This is not a new mouse, it has been out since 2002, I have owned one at work and at home for about a year and a half. I was getting pain in my mouse hand on the top of the hand and wrist, and the Evoluent Vertical Mouse 2 has pretty much taken care of it.

Just based off looking at the picture, I would be concerned that too much pressure would be placed on the pinky finger and edge of the hand causing other injuries. Also, it may make the user use their thumb a lot, which would cause RSI type problems (this makes assumptions about how the mouse works that may be untrue). The posture of the hand also looks as though it could cause issues that would contribute the CTS disorders.
I've yet to find a truly ergonomic mouse. Companies seems to just want to attach themself with a buzzword.
