How many of us have actually fallen into a situation where we run out of battery on our cellphones during a very important conversation? That is no longer the case with the HTW S116 solar cellphone, as this handset comes with a surface packed with solar cells to keep your handset charged whenever there is any sunlight. An hour's charge is capable of giving at least thirty minutes of power. Additional features of this Motokrzr-lookalike includes a 1.3 megapixel camera, a memory card slot, and a 320 x 240 QVGA display. HTW Electronics mentioned that the S116 will be released in China next month onwards.

I read about a solar phone perhaps 2 years ago, it was supposed to revolutionize the cell phone market. I think its a great idea in theory, but I wonder, as someone familiar with solar and batteries, about the negative effects of heat on electronics such as cell phone circuitry and batteries. Batteries, in my experience don't do well in heat. I know that heat has a direct impact on a batteries ability to accept and discharge electrical energy, and I sincerely hope that the designers of this solar phone have somehow come up with a genious method of somehow dissipating heat.

If someone knows how they do this, I'd be very very interested. Its interesting, because I often see people leaving their phones (LCD up) in the sun, and this can kill a screen. Leaving a phone out in the sun just doesn't seem like a very bright idea, if you want your phone to last more than 6 months.
