I will crush you!
A bunch of researchers from the Tokyo Institute of Technology have successfully created the first electromechanical prosthetic hand in the world that is strong enough to crush an empty beverage can, and I suspect all of humanity in due time. The 300g bionic hand features a grip strength of approximately 15kg - half that of an average adult male. It is not only deft at crushing cans, but it is pretty nimble when it comes to pinching and picking up small objects. I wonder what practical applications can apply to this bionic hand at the moment - perhaps they could be included as a novelty item at aluminum can recycling centers?

Usefull aplications having half the strength of a human hand. Well it might be able to let you hold onto a railing , help you climb a ladder, help you lift an infant seat, swing a hammer, open a jar... There are a lot of things that require strength of a hand or even both hands. If a prostetic can function similar, have similar strengths and be controlled with trained muscle impulses, then people who have lost an arm might be able to do things like get their job back as a gardener, construction worker, mechanic... or do sports. It could even save their lives. I'm not sure what the strength was of the previos prosthetics, but this sounds like a major acheivement... A lot better than pictures and stats or the latest cell phone or GPS.

I speek from personal understanding as my dad lost his left arm to Poleo when he was a kid. How much is this worth?
