Rumor: iPod Video to use flash memory
Rumor has it that Apple could end up using NAND flash memory in the next iteration of the video iPod, which means users will end up with considerably less space should the current price point of the 80GB iPod Video be maintained. The two new models will feature 16GB and 32GB capacities - somehow I can't help but feel that this is taking a few steps backwards as some of us already have filled our 80GB iPods to the brim a long time ago. Do you prefer to have superior space on the more fragile hard drive, or carry less video and music on-the-go with the peace of mind that your data won't end up corrupted due to minor knocks and bumps.

I agree that a 16GB one would be a *severe* step backwards, the 32GB would be passable. It depends on the price - if they can get a 32GB flash Video out for $299 (current price of the 30GB HD based model), I'd actually consider that. However, I would not pay $399 for a 32GB model.

I'm guessing that Apple has lined-up sources for the next generation flash chips with double the density of the chips in the current Nanos. That would allow them to create large capacity Videos at a reasonable price.

I think a 32GB video would be sweet, I loved my 40GB, and if they can cram 32GB in and make it nice and slim, I am in!!
