Sony PSP revamp confirmed
Posted on Mar 13, 07 10:41 AM PDT

Hmm, Sony seems to be getting its act together with the announcement of the PlayStation Home last week, followed by confirmation of widespread rumors that a spanking new PSP will be on its way. The revamped PSP is nothing more than a physical redesign, and it will come in a smaller and lighter version. Fans of the PSP's generous screen will be pleased to know that the screen size will remain as it is, which is a good thing. There is still no word on a release date nor the production time frame. Looks like Sony will be following Nintendo's lead in the world of portable gaming by releasing a hardware refresh in order to keep interest in the console flying high.

I suppose Ninty has been doing the hardware refresh thing for a longer time now (console wise, starting with the many iterations of the GameBoy), and Sony must've thought - hey, it is pretty profitable! But that's just my opinion :)
Presumably their design of the PSP was pretty good in the first place, which explains a far lower leap when compared to the quantum one made from the DS Phat to the DS Lite.

Sony's not really following Nintendo's lead as they have always came out with a revamped Playstation somewhere along the line. eg, Playstation to PSone, PS2 to PS2 slimline (PStwo) And now they have done it for the PSP, and they will most likely do the same for the PS3.
