Hobbyists who love home recording will be thrilled to see the Alesis iMultiMix 8 USB Pro iPod Recorder. This neat looking 8-track is capable of recording directly to your iPod's hard drive, where you can listen to it at a later period. In addition, the iMultiMix is also capable of integrating music from the iPod into any recording, saving them on iTunes via USB. The iMultiMix 8 is compatible with any iPod equipped with a standard docking slot. Interested homebrew music enthusiasts can pick up this nifty device for $500. Will this mean more professional homebrew music videos on YouTube?

This unit does not work as advertised above with anything less than a 5th Generation iPod. It was frustrating to get the unit home only to discover that my iPod is 4th Generation.. It will dock and charge, but the transport controls work sporadically. The unit will play through the mixer, but you have to manipulate the transport manually on the iPod to have complete control. I will have to bite the bullet and get a new iPod since my only reason for getting the mixer is to use the larger transport controls on a live gig situation. If I wanted to stay with my old iPod I could have gotten a Mackie with dual signal processors and sliders for about the same money
