Sing a Song A168

Gadget shop Brando of Hong Kong has a new cellphone available in its inventory known as the Song A168. While this tri-band GSM handset is not 3G capable, it does come with a pretty vast array of features that offer great value for its $250 sticker price. Features include a 3.2 megapixel camera, a 2.4" 260k color touchscreen display, MP3 and MP4 playback, Java support, Bluetooth connectivity, and an integrated FM radio. The Song A168 measures 50mm x 98mm x 17mm and comes in black or white colors. Don't expect the user interface to be refined though as it'll probably require a steeper learning curve than usual.

LGRH says: hey there... after months .. finally i have and answer for all the people having problems with BLUETHOOTH ... after you have the malfunction by bad transfer of data & the phone starts reboot or something and the bluetooth says initializing but nothing happens the way to fix it...you need to erase some data that the phone BIOS wrote in a section of memory of 5MB that isn't visible on windows but you can see it by plug-in the phone in a linux based OS, i recomended UBUNTU LINUX you can download it from www.ubuntu.com and you dont need to intall it you can run it from the CD just reboot your PC and boot it from the CD and you may enter on a LIVE CD sesion of UBUNTU and then you plug-in the phone and will be display 2 or 3 unids depends if you have a microSD or not... 1 device that ubuntu recognize was the 55mb of memory that you can manage for storage data normaly, 2° device the microSD (those 2 was the 2 windows recognize), the 3° was the one you have to erase, here you found that is a unid with 5mb (the one i tell you) and there are a few data about all the settings the phone will use, so you need to erase it because there are damage data that cause the phone malfunction, all we have to do its erase all the data on this adress and unmount the devices, when ubuntu ask if you want to erase the trash say YES... now just turn on your mobile and the problem its fix!! by erase the data i tell you all setting goes to default so the phone display are in chinese so you need to change te language to english.. press on the left button on teh scren that is the MENU then the last 4° icon in the left it is SYSTEM then teh first one in the left whit the key of nuts(or whatever its called) then the number 02 PHONE SETUP and the 03 LANGUAJE ther you find a known letter that say english press it and there you go you phone at last works properly again.........sorry about my bad english if you havea cuestion please mail me at lgrh@hotmail.com whit the sobject SONG A168 BLUETHOOT

this is the complete procedure to those that have problems with camera/video module not working on song a168.step by step down to details instruction:
1.power off your phone
2.take out battery
3.take out sim card
4.on the back of the phone (top)black plastic around camera lense has 4 small very thin clips you gonna need tiny flat head screwdriver
5.take your time and relax every bad movement can result in breaking part of your phone
6.once you have plastic off locate 4 tiny screws one in each corner of the phone
7. you'll need also tiny Phillips head screwdriver
8.once u have them lose and out (put screws on white paper so they're visible)take a break .... trust me this is delicate work and requires more breaks than one if you want it done without any problems
9.now its fun part .... slowly and gently take out interior of the phone out of the shell case (screen,buttons,etc)put every part separate on white paper so its all visible
10.now on the back of the circuit board of the phone(the interior) look where camera lense is under it you'll see small connector
11.you will need plastic knife or anything plastic(not sharp) so you can press the connector down into the housing make sure its in DO NOT press hard onto it you can break it everything inside this phone is fragile
12.once thats done its time to put it all back together remember how you took it apart now its all backwards
13.buttons in...check, screen in ...check, front cover on...check, screws back in...check, back cover on...check, sim back in...check, battery in...check, battery cover back on...check, power up and good to go...aaaaaaaaand check.that'll be $75 lmao jk hope ya fix it i fixed mine

good day. i have song A168 unit. its a great phone but when i used bluetooth, it started restarting over and over again and cant access the network service. i think i need to have this hpone reformatted. However, i dont have its drivers needed for reformatting and the process how to reformat this phone. can u please help me with this one?

hi everybody, i too recently bought the song a168 and thought i did enough research with th tiny bit of accessible info. i do like the phone, certainly do wish i was more tech savvy but after speaking with my cingular provider i realize they do not have setting info for me. hawk, you seemed to know a thing or two. i hope you still check this site.. i cannot set up the browser even with tech support from cingular. i also can't download mms images. the manual appears to have been written by a student of english. getting through the translation difficulties, it still does not answer specific questions about configuring this phone to useful settings for internet. please help. anything would b appreciated. i still find the phone useful and since i can't just drop a serious dime on another phone will continue to use it but i'm sad about not being able to fully take advantage of the very attractive options this phone appeared to offer. thanks. vengalle@aol.com

Finally sussed out how to fix the "Camera module not ready" problem. I took the phone to bits and re-connected a loose cable on the circuit board inside and when I put it back together it worked like a dream. So all you people with this error message will have to get someone technical to take it to bits for you

Getting started
To insert your SIM card and battery
Before you can use your phone you need to:
Insert the SIM card
Insert and charge the battery
Please put the SIM card in the place that the children can’t reach
Please plug, remove and use the SIM card carefully as the SIM card and your personal material can be scratched, bended and damaged easily
Always turn off the phone and detach the charger before you insert or remove a SIM card
1. Remove the battery cover by sliding it as shown in the picture (1) pick up the battery. (2).
2. Insert the SIM card and battery (3).
To charge the battery
You should charge the battery when you use the mobile phone for the first time.
1．Put the charger in the bottom of your mobile phone
2．And then insert the charger plug into the electrical outlet
Notice: You can use your mobile phone when you charging but the function of charging will stop.
Notice: When it shows“ ” you will hear the warning, when it shows “ ” the mobile phone will turn off automatically
Turn on/off
Turn on for the first time
You can turn on your mobile phone after charging and setting the battery. When you turn on the mobile phone for the first time it will show you to enter the setting page. Please follow these ways:
1. Please press the power key after you setting the battery
2. Pay Notice to the “+” please. The “+” will move on the screen for several times until the revising is over. Please take aim at the “+” and press it when it moves to the new place.

To activate the Bluetooth

Diversion when busy: Diversion when you are answering some calls.
Diversion of all the data call: All the data calls are diverted.
Cancel All: Cancel all the above settings
Call Guard
You can escape from some certain calls which you do not want to answer or call, which may need the exact phone numbers.
Number you dialed: guard: all number you dial, international call, or international call (home calls exclusive)
Incoming Calls: Guard all incoming calls: incoming calls or incoming calls when roaming.
Cancel All: cancel all the above settings.
To change the guard numbers: You need to input some certain numbers when you want to guard some numbers. And you are allowed to change the guard number at anytime by contacting those who offer you service
To change users’ line
You can choose different transfer lines offered by different company.

You can set a certain time prompting to help you know the time of the future calls.

To choose the Network
You can choose the network by you or automatically.
If you choose “automatic” your phone will choose an available network, and then please press” Yes”.
With the status of “man settings “, your phone will display a series of available networks and choose a network that you want (If there is an agreement between this network and the company who offers you service.)
The preferable network
The preferable network will be applied when the network options is set to be the status “Automatic”. It will display the network of your phone, and it will be considered as the most preferable network when it comes to choosing a network.
GPRS connection
To press “transfer” and your phone will change its GPRS connection status.
Security
SIM Lock
With this function ,you can have a settings to have your phone can only use some certain SIM card , so that it can prevent it from being used with other SIM cards by others or losing the formation saved in your phone when your phone is lost. You can power on or power off this function.
Phone lock
You can lock or unlock your phone to protect your phone. If you unlock your phone, you need to input a group of numbers. The password of it is “0000”.
Key tap Lock
You can lock the key taps of your phone automatically to prevent them from being pressed carelessly.
To choose “Time “in the “sub-menu “and press “Yes”.
Fixed number
Only in the FDN number can you dial. If you want to change you should change PIN2 first
Ban of Dialing Numbers
You can power on or power off this pattern. If you power on it, you will forbid calling others but still can answers the incoming calls.
To change your passwords
To change Pin: You can change Pin.
To change Pin 2: You can change Pin2.
Password of the phone: You can change the phone password.
Reset Settings
You can have your phone reset to the primary settings, and it needs passwords to fulfill this function.
Restore factory settings
About the batteries
The batteries of your phone can be re-charged.
The batteries can be re-charged and re-discharged for millions times. But it is naturally too ended up with being damaged. You may need to buy the new batteries when the using time of the batteries (call time and standby time) obviously reduces.

i was sending a file via bluetooth and it just cancel and now and the cell phone just started restarting over and over again every 15 sec ,and if you check the bluetooth displays this message "initializing bluetooth Now. TO EVERYONE WHO WANTS THE MAGIC CODE TO RESET THE FACTORY SETTINGS IT IS 1122 GOOD LUCK
For the people who dont know how to use the audio player- u need to transfer from the "FILES" folder into your "MUSIC" folder then go into audio, press OPTION and then "RE-FRESH LIST" it should all come up with what ever is in the music folder its THAT SIMPLE.
You can download a software called "Cell Phone Manager" to manage the phone.
To those getting the 'insert SIM' message
1. make sure you putting the card in the correct slot. If your holding the phone right side up and looking at the back of it it should be the slot on the lower left side.
2. secondly make sure your sim card is clean and well aligned with receptors on the card and phone.
To change language from Chinese to English
1. Turn on phone, hold down red button
2. Press silver middle button (will take you to the menu screen)
3. Select the forth icon on the left of screen (Picture of round object)
4. Scroll select the icon (picture of a wrench/ tool)
5. Scroll and select number 2

I cant believe ppl are still asking for the above and other basic info.
READ down through the post's and u will find a full manual @#50 also an email address for one @#80.
I bought one of these phones a few weeks ago and have had no probs with it, My 14 yr old figured out how to change it to English and the rest is basic stuff.
READ some of the post's before u ask and there's a good chance u will find what u r looking for before wasting yours and other's time
ITS A GREAT LITTLE PHONE and NO it doesnt have an operating system like windows mobile,it is just a basic phone with touch screen and a few extra goodies,
A couple of basic things it doesnt have is the ability to add your own MESSAGE ring tone which is a bit disapointing and I couldnt find any option for a reminder msg a few hrs before an event as well as the reminder at the time of the event.
The other thing that gets up my nose is that there isnt any accessories available for this phone like clip on leather cases or cases of any sort and made to fit screen protectors etc
Other than that its a great little phone for a realy cheap price

First off, the phone is great if you have T-mobile or Cingular. Second, if you read all of these entries on this comment board most of your questions can be answered. The insuctions on how to change from chi. to eng. is on page 1. The english manual is on page 8. The phone itself is one of the greatest phones I have ever seen.

first off this phone DOES WORK! and its really good to use. For the people who doesnt know how to use the audio player- u need to transfer from the "FILES" folder into your "MUSIC" folder then go into audio, press OPTION and then "RE-FRESH LIST" it should all come up with what ever is in the music folder its THAT SIMPLE.
NOW that i've helped out a few people with that quiery, can someone tell me WHAT PROGRAM I NEED TO PLAY MP4? I have transfered the MP4 into the phone but when i hit play it says "INVALID PROGRAM"..... please let me know what needs to be done.

I just got this phone for my wife and for the price its actually a decent phone.
I have cingular service and it seems so far that the reception is not that great. She has only tested the phone inside a hospital because we just had a baby daughter so she hasnt actually tested the phone outside. My wife seems pretty pleased with the features but please keep in mind this is no Windows Mobile Phone I( I a htc 8125 and aside from the treo its the greatest phone ever)'
So for those who have asked whether or not they should buy this phones, please consider the following:
What will be your main goal with this phone? Are you going to use this like a pda?
The phone is no pda but more a an overhauld mp3 player with video, phone, and camera capabilities.
So if you dont care about slight reception lost and you want to pop a 1gig card to listen to music, then this phone would be good for you.
At first I did have the sim error message and al I did was take the sim card out and I bent it a little to make sure it would make good contact with the prongs. I also just ran my finger nail across the gold prongs just in case it had dust or something.
This phone can not be used with Sprint service, it is an GSM only phone (cingular, T-mobile, uk gsm providers ext..)
I hope this helps, I myself am looking for some more info on this phone. I would like to be able to change the interface but like I said before this is not windows mobile you can just mod. I am sure there is some chineese person out there that has some experience with this phone and can help some of us mod this phone to our likes.

To insert your SIM card and battery
Before you can use your phone you need to:

Insert and charge the battery
Please put the SIM card in the place that the children can’t reach
Please plug, remove and use the SIM card carefully as the SIM card and your personal material can be scratched, bended and damaged easily
Always turn off the phone and detach the charger before you insert or remove a SIM card

To charge the battery
You should charge the battery when you use the mobile phone for the first time.

Your phone can arrange in groups with the Bluetooth v1.1.The Bluetooth technology can make the connection of your mobile phone and electronic equipment conveniently. The connecting function can use for sending pictures, movies, words and cards
Notice: Your mobile phone can support these Bluetooth documents: HSP (headset-free), SPP (Serial port), DUN (Dial-up networking, A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) & FTP (File Transfer Profile).).
To activate the Bluetooth
When you need to connect with the other tools for the first time you must activate the Bluetooth you can use Bluetooth installation to connect with other tools after the setting. If you activate the Bluetooth installation it will show the symbol , the green means the connecting of Bluetooth and other tools is OK, The transparent means the browed of your Bluetooth installation by other people and your condition will hiding.

3. Choose the Bluetooth in the “connectivity” and press “OK”.
4. You should open the Bluetooth connectivity function and all the installation you want to connect first
5. Press the “music installation searching” after you start the Bluetooth installation. Your mobile phone will search and connect the other electronic installation automatically
6. Whenever your phone connects with the other installations there will be the message to inform you.
7. Press the “connectivity” to connect your phone with the Bluetooth headphone
8. Then, you can add the entire name list with Bluetooth headphone and press “yes” to link the headphone
Notice: Make sure that you have all the installation charged before you use the Bluetooth headphone.
Notice: The entire name you added to the Bluetooth installation will show in “My setting”. If you want to connect your collection with your Bluetooth headphone in the future, you can select from “My setting” to finish it.
To use your phone as the modem
Your phone can use as the modem to link the internet. This function can use for the computer that supports the Bluetooth technology. When you install please check with the personnel who help you together.
To use the stereo hands free headset to play music
1. 1. Follow the step 1 and 2 to search and connect your stereo hands free headset
2. 2. Choose the “connectivity” in the “select “name to activate your stereo hands free headset
3. 3. Press “connectivity” to choose A2DP document to listen to the music
4. 4. You can listen to the music before you connect to this document.
To use the Bluetooth connectivity to send files
1. Select the file you want to send

To use Bluetooth to receive files

You can choose one of the input ways to help you edit the messages, phone book and multi-media. More about the input way is in the input way parts.
Greeting text
You can edit the greetings that you want to display when you power on your phone.
The right key
You can edit the right key profiles, and choose one of the key as the right key.
Direction Functional Key
You can set the direction key according to your interests.
Navigation Pattern
You can use your phone as an mp3 player by choosing the flight pattern. Once you choose this pattern, your phone can only be use as an mp 3 player only.
Other Settings
You can power on or power off the service light and make a light setting of the LCD or make it lighting all the time.
Call Setup
Your Number
You can display or hide your number by using this function when you are calling or sending messages.
Call Information
It can inform you there is another incoming call when you are answering.
To choose “Call settings” in the “Settings”, and press “Yes”
To choose “Call Information” and press “Yes”; to choose “ON” or “OFF”, and press “” Yes”.
You can know the present status of the call information settings, on or off by press “check”
Call Diversion
You can set the call status to have calls divert to other phone numbers.
Call Diversion Settings
To choose “Call Settings” in the “Settings”, and press “Yes”
To choose “Call Diversion”, and press” Yes”; to choose one of the settings, and press “Yes”
To choose “Activation”, and press “Yes”
To input the phone number you want to divert to, and press “Yes”
There are the following options:
Diversion of all calls: all the calls are diverted.
Diversion when no connection: diversion when you are out off service.
Diversion when no answer: Diversion when there is no answer.
Diversion when busy: Diversion when you are answering some calls.
Diversion of all the data call: All the data calls are diverted.
Cancel All: Cancel all the above settings
Call Guard
You can escape from some certain calls which you do not want to answer or call, which may need the exact phone numbers.
Number you dialed: guard: all number you dial, international call, or international call (home calls exclusive)
Incoming Calls: Guard all incoming calls: incoming calls or incoming calls when roaming.
Cancel All: cancel all the above settings.
To change the guard numbers: You need to input some certain numbers when you want to guard some numbers. And you are allowed to change the guard number at anytime by contacting those who offer you service
To change users’ line
You can choose different transfer lines offered by different company.
Call Time Prompting
You can set a certain time prompting to help you know the time of the future calls.
To choose “Call Settings” in “Settings”, and press “Yes”
To choose “Call Time Prompting” .and press “Yes”
To choose one of the option, and press “Yes”
Your phone offers you the following options of time prompting.
Off
Singular sound
Period
Notice: the minimum time is 30 seconds.
Display of Call Time
You can power on or power off this function as you like.
To redial automatically
You can have settings of redial automatically. With this function, your phone will redial the number 10 times which when you failed to call.
To close down groups
You can set some groups which can call you or can be called.
Network Settings
To choose the Network
You can choose the network by you or automatically.
If you choose “automatic” your phone will choose an available network, and then please press” Yes”.
With the status of “man settings “, your phone will display a series of available networks and choose a network that you want (If there is an agreement between this network and the company who offers you service.)
The preferable network
The preferable network will be applied when the network options is set to be the status “Automatic”. It will display the network of your phone, and it will be considered as the most preferable network when it comes to choosing a network.
GPRS connection
To press “transfer” and your phone will change its GPRS connection status.
Security
SIM Lock
With this function ,you can have a settings to have your phone can only use some certain SIM card , so that it can prevent it from being used with other SIM cards by others or losing the formation saved in your phone when your phone is lost. You can power on or power off this function.
Phone lock
You can lock or unlock your phone to protect your phone. If you unlock your phone, you need to input a group of numbers. The password of it is “0000”.
Key tap Lock
You can lock the key taps of your phone automatically to prevent them from being pressed carelessly.
To choose “Time “in the “sub-menu “and press “Yes”.
Fixed number
Only in the FDN number can you dial. If you want to change you should change PIN2 first
Ban of Dialing Numbers
You can power on or power off this pattern. If you power on it, you will forbid calling others but still can answers the incoming calls.
To change your passwords
To change Pin: You can change Pin.
To change Pin 2: You can change Pin2.
Password of the phone: You can change the phone password.
Reset Settings
You can have your phone reset to the primary settings, and it needs passwords to fulfill this function.
Restore factory settings
About the batteries
The batteries of your phone can be re-charged.
The batteries can be re-charged and re-discharged for millions times. But it is naturally too ended up with being damaged. You may need to buy the new batteries when the using time of the batteries (call time and standby time) obviously reduces.
You should pull out the battery charger and avoid charging the batteries for more than a week, because charging excessively will reduce the use age of the batteries.

Notice: If you wrongly press the PIN password, you will need the PUK password to help to unlock the locked SIM card. And the PUK password can be gotten from the company who offer you services.
PIN2 password
PIN2 password maybe offered by the SIM card, and the fulfillment of
Some of the functions will need PIN2 password, such as charging form settings.
Notice: You probably need to get the password from the company who offers you service.
Notice: I f you input the wrong PIN2 password in a time; you will need the PUK password to help to unlock the locked SIM card. You can get the PUK password from the company who offer you services.
PUK password
You need a Punk (Personal Unblocking Key) password to help to unlock the locked PIN password.
Notice: You may need the help from the companies who offers you service if you want to get the password.
Notice: If you wrongly input the PUK password 10 times in a time, it will be impossible for you to use this SIM card again. Please get a new SIM card from the company who offers you services.
Mobile phone password
The phone password prevent your phone from being used without permition .It does not work when you buy but you can change the original password 0000 to 4 to 8 numbers as your password.

To those getting the 'insert SIM' message
1. make sure you putting the card in the correct slot. If your holding the phone right side up and looking at the back of it it should be the slot on the lower left side.
2. secondly make sure your sim card is clean and well aligned with receptors on the card and phone.

I just got the Song A168 and its messing up on me. What it is doing is: saying "Insert Sim". My sim card is good, and i have tried friends' sim cards, and it says the same thing so i know its the phone. It was working fine but now i get the "Insert Sim". Could someone please help me on this becuase im in the U.S. Army and i dont have any time for a service center or anything like that. Is there maybe a firmware that could take care of this problem or software update of some kind???
I love the phone in general i just wish it wouldn't have messed up on me...
