Samsung recently showcased the UbiCell at CTIA 2007, a device that leverages Access Point Base Station technology in order to improve upon the spotty connection often associated with cellphones. The UbiCell is sized slightly larger than the average WiFi access point and hooks up to the mobile carrier's network via the user's home broadband connection. CDMA and WCDMA versions are in the works, with the latter offering support for HSDPA. One drawback would be the integrated GPS chip that prevents the UbiCell from operating in areas where the network operator does not possess a licensed spectrum.
