Acer announces V200 GPS system
Posted on May 29, 07 10:07 PM PDT

Acer has just unveiled a new GPS personal navigation system that will definitely appeal to entry-level users, thanks to the uber affordable price of €149. Known as the Acer V200, this device comes with a standard 3.5" TFT LCD 65k color display at 240 x 320 resolution, an integrated SiRFStar III GPS chipset, and a 300MHz Samsung S3C2442XL processor. 64MB RAM and a similar amount of ROM ought to be enough for basic navigation needs, while an SD/MMC memory card slot offers future expansion options. Since it comes with maps of France on the Destinator 6 navigation software, chances are it will be marketed in France only.

The maps I have found with my v200 are old and not still valid. The CD that came with the device is not useful, since it only add the existing maps (still old!) but it doesn't allow to update old maps. Where can I update my maps (that are related to the year 2006!!!) ? It seems quite impossible...

the acer v200 is a great little device. it allowed me to travel around Italy easily and greece. "To update the maps" you install the cd's that came with it onto your computer, hook up the acer via usb and it tells you how to add or delete maps. it talks in english and other languages. when you hook it up to the computer to upgrade the maps, make sure the sd card is in the acer as that is where it stores the maps.
