Datel Drive Doctor for Wii owners
Want to set up a date between your Nintendo Wii and a computer? Get the Datel Drive Doctor device which is attached to your beloved Gamecube descendant by a little bit of soldering action. Once done, your computer and Wii will be able to interface with each other directly via its USB port. The possibilities of such a setup is limited by your imagination and homebrew programming skills, as you can view the Wii's data streams in real time or create your own mods and homebrew games, although nobody has actually done anything about it yet. The Datel Drive Doctor retails for $35, and hopefully it will be a boost to the Wii homebrew community just like how the R4 Revolution card has been a boon to the DS homebrew scene.

Do I really want this? Is it useless and illegal or legal and worthy? It sounds nice, but bye bye warranty.

Well it can be a very handy tool!! The problem I am finding is that you have to write your own scripts, or maybe find them ready made... But I cannt find any !! Also you see everything in HEX ... its a bit difficult from amatures!

I'm thinking of buying it but I am not sure...... can you also for instance connect it to your computer, without a TV, and play on the computer only?

Dumbest product ever? Geeks? Ha! You see, if you know what to do with something like this, you can make your Wii everything you wanted it to be. Not only can you "cheat" but you can modify the game code, allowing you do do things like play your own ROMs (games) in Virtual Console, create software, or create ways to create software, plus anything else you can do with the code running on the white glowing box that is the Nintendo Wii!

This is a great device if you want to modify how the wii runs, the thing is you have to have soldering experience. I have one on my wii and I have emulators for nes, snes, and n64 so i can run roms I own instead of having to buy them again off the shop channel. Another cool thing is that you can change the output resolution as well to something higher than 480p, and you can allow foreign games to be playable(watch out though if you do an in-game firmware upgrade on a foreign disk you could brick your wii). You can also change the fan speed and when the fan comes on(for instance you can program for the fan to come on at intervals on wc24 standby mode), and a essential mod is make the slot led stay on when the system is on. Overall the usability of this is how much you can program(but i'm sure you can find software for it on the internet) and use xp or linux, NOT vista.

This is one of the dumbest products ever. Who would spend money, invalidate their Wii's warrenty, and possibly mess up its system code with one of these!? And for what, winning a game by cheating. (That is, if you don't ruin your Wii.) This is just another dumb piece of unlicensed equipment for nerds that have nothing better to do and are bad at video games. I, for one, play my Wii like a normal person. This is just retarded crap! Now go meet some new friends (not on the internet), step out of your mom's basement, and see the real world!

five wires, same five wires as any other drive mod. Getting he Wii apart is the hard part. Then you've got to hope that you have one of the wiis that actually has the header on it.

5 wires. It's essentially a "Legal" Wii drive modchip. It CAN be updated to act as one as well

Does anyone know HOW MUCH soldering that's needed?
