Google Universal Search: how to promote Youtube…

Published on 05/16/2007

[Google Searchology] – Earlier today, Marissa Mayer, Google’s VP of Search Product and user Experience, presented the new Google Universal Search. This new algorithm is combining search results from text, maps, news, images, books and videos on the same page. For example, a query for “Nosferatu” is now displaying the movie’s video embedded in the page results, when you look for a restaurant you directly access the map and typing “Steve Jobs” gets you pictures, news and videos related to Apple’s CEO and not a bunch of job hunters sites any more. People are not browsing videos and media enough, now Google is making sure they will do it more… Don’t they own YouTube? This was the most interesting part of the press conference… No, I was not bored! Harry McCracken from PC World was sitting just behind me at Google Searchology, you can read more details about Google Universal Search presentation in his article Picture: the red rectangles show the additional new features: on top the drop down menu to access the Google products easily (this is a UI basic!) and below the logo, the contextual links, displaying the more relevant categories for the query.
