Shift routines from Microsoft

Published on05/24/07

Microsoft researchers are currently working on a set of routines christened "Shift", enabling users to use their fingers as a mouse on a PDA display. This range of motions include selecting an area of interest, creating a pop up window, double clicking, and even activating the targeted content. Sounds like old hat to me as you can already do this with a stylus. A stylus is way more accurate after all, and it won't leave greasy marks all over your screen. Do you guys have any practical ideas on how Shift routines can be used in a beneficial manner that a stylus cannot already do?
