Education.com: Web 2.0 for parents

Education.com beta launches today and for once, the Web 2.0 folks are paying attention to the parents. I met CEO Ronald Fortune last week at an “education and technology” presentation hosted by Azure capital. According to him, there is a void in educational websites. Searching for competitors, I found several websites with terrible user interfaces and design, and most cover a limited aspect of parenting. None of them offers the Facebook-like community features available on education.com. The best competitor is probably iVillage Parenting – it features a large amount of articles covering a broad range of topics, but their online community capabilities aren’t as sophisticated (see the profile page comparison in the full post).
Education.com will be the “one-stop shop” for high quality information about parenting and it is already partnering with well-respected organizations and Universities.
