Samsung unveils 70 inch LCD behemoth

There is a new 70" full high definition LCD TV out in Korea now, and this model differs from the rest of the crowd as it comes with a light-emitting diode (LED) backlight which replaces the traditional cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) version. This LED backlight also boasts Samsung's very own local dimming technology that turns off in dark image areas to deliver a contrast ratio that is guaranteed to drop jaws - 500,000 to 1! This performance can be achieved despite a lowered power consumption of 50%. LED scanning capability in this LCD TV also makes flicker and ghosting problems a thing of the past. There is no word on pricing at the moment, but you can be sure that it will be out of reach for most people.
