Sending power without the need for wires has long been a dream, but U.S. researchers are getting closer to their goal after a developing a system known as WiTricity that successfully delivers power to devices sans wires. Their experiment involved making a 60W light bulb glow from up to 2 meters away. While that is commendable, the bar ought to be raised since only 40% of the energy is sent across the gap, with the remaining 60% being lost. The simple physics principle called "resonance" plays a very big role in making the WiTricity successful. Hopefully future iterations of this system will be more efficient, and we no longer need to tether our devices to power outlets via wires.
