WiTricity delivers power sans wires
Posted on Jun 7, 07 10:10 PM PDT

Sending power without the need for wires has long been a dream, but U.S. researchers are getting closer to their goal after a developing a system known as WiTricity that successfully delivers power to devices sans wires. Their experiment involved making a 60W light bulb glow from up to 2 meters away. While that is commendable, the bar ought to be raised since only 40% of the energy is sent across the gap, with the remaining 60% being lost. The simple physics principle called "resonance" plays a very big role in making the WiTricity successful. Hopefully future iterations of this system will be more efficient, and we no longer need to tether our devices to power outlets via wires.

Gaiacomm International already has the Wielectricity.

The idea is not a new one, but its demonstration under experimental conditions is truly encourasginging. To me it means virtually the wireless transmission of any form of electrict signals, including digital data, with unlimited applications such as in computer field.

I find it amusing to still find the word "never" spoken in reference to technology.

this is nothing new. this is just using charging by induction, like how a van de graff generator makes your hairs stick up if you are near it and not touching it.
also, it is highly inefectual, and it is impossible for it to be efficient, like (i venture to say) that Wi-Fi routers require to use more electricity than using Ethernet cables.
this will never become viable due to the extreme lack of efficiency.

As if microwave ovens, mobile phones, airport screening machines, and wearing hip-huggers in the 70's hasn't already done enough damage to my sperm's motility and viability. Walking betwixt these devices may create a party in my pants, but I'm not sure the risk is worth the convenience.
