The idea of a polymer armor is very interesting, and d3o from Britian has achieved just that by introducing a smart material that is malleable until you hit it with some force, turning it rigid in an instant. Apparently the US Olympic Ski Team utilized d3o material in their ski suits, while d30 is also offering hats and gloves that boast d3o linings. Remember that these hats are not meant to replace the use of a helmet, but having some form of protection is always better than nothing. News of this polymer armor might have been out for some time now, but it still is a valid and interesting to check out since I missed the boat the last time round.
