Saving energy is big these days, and Gilles Belles have drawn up an interesting concept in the Energy Saving Adapter. Consisting of different modules, each module works with a single device, monitoring its power consumption independently. While standby mode is a good idea, you still take up around 10% of electricity in that mode. The Energy Saving Adapters will detect this waste and notify the owner by displaying a corresponding symbol. If you fail to respond within three minutes, the device will automatically be turned off. While this idea works great with most other items, I fear that it does not bode well for notebooks and PCs that have gone into standby mode. There might still be unsaved data in there, not to mention the possible data corruption when power is cut off suddenly.
