Helios Labs has just dropped an announcement of its H2000 upscaling DVD player that sounds like an absolute bargain. $99 will net you a DVD playback device that comes with standard resolution HDMI, component, and VGA video sources, upscaling your regular DVD to 720p or 1080i resolution for the benefit of those who own HDTVs. This region-free DVD player also upscales video in MPEG-4, XviD, DivX, and MPEG-2 format via HDMI, component, or VGA inputs. VobSub subtitle format is also supported, and that is guaranteed to bring a smile to faces of foreign film fans. The Helios H2000 will hit US retailers this August for $99 apiece. Many people still haven't made the HD jump as they're pretty happy with the picture of standard DVDs, and this certainly makes bridging the gap all the more difficult.
