Magnetic Display tech in the works
Researchers located at the University of California have developed a new display technology that involves plastic-coated iron oxide particles that are filled with liquid. These highly charged particles will repel each other and arrange themselves (in a more organized manner than schoolchildren) in a structure known as the colloidal photonic crystal. Individual particles will then end up as a pixel that represents a unique color, and can be controlled by a magnet located just behind. Researchers have created a range of colors with this technology with the long term goal of creating larger displays that are cheaper than current LCDs. Other perks include being highly visible outdoors and the ability to be used as a rewritable electronic paper.
