Steam engine for lilliputians

Iqbal Ahmed from India has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the inventor of the smallest working stationary steam engine in the world. A mere 10cc of water is used to generate steam that enables this engine to run for approximately two minutes. The alcohol burner-powered boiler (measuring 45mm high and 15mm in diameter) is connected to the steam intake nipple via a 1.5″ pipe. The entire machine measures 6.8mm x 16.24mm and weighs just 1.72 grams. Now this won’t be able to be used in any practical manner, unless someone invents an incredible shrinking machine. Still, it is great to see something miniaturized to such dimensions through a labor of love. One thing’s for sure – you gotta get your hands dirty to build one.
