Transparent LCD display wows

Looks like transparent LCD displays are all the rage in the future, as countless movies have already portrayed these with the timeline being set in the distant future. Thankfully, the future is now, with transparent LCD displays using a liquid crystal optical film instead of traditional LCD backlights. There is no word on when such technology will be made available to the consumer market, although case studies will have to be carried out beforehand in order to test the waters. Kinda reminds me of a pilot's cockpit with all these HUDs, but no government would be sane enough to include these in cars. Perhaps a cellphone or PMP with such a display that can be propped up?
