ATC2K waterproof action cam
Posted on Aug 6, 07 12:10 AM PDT

Oregon Scientific has a waterproof action camera up their sleeves this time, and this time it goes by the moniker ATC2K. The ATC2K would find a home on most helmets due to an easy mounting system, and can also be attached to handlebars and other sporting equipment without too much trouble. The ATC2K comes with 32MB of integrated memory, while an SD/MMC memory card slot lets you record up to an hour's worth of video with a 2GB SD card, even when you've gone scuba diving (the ATC2K has a maximum operating depth of 3m). Videos are recorded in full color at 640 x 480 at 30fps. It will be available in Japan this August 10th onwards for $158.

I just got the ATC2K off eBay and am pretty happy with it so far. I havn't had a chance to take it out and get some real footage yet but I have played around with it and am fairly impressed. It feels very sturdy and with the supplied silicone grease I am confident about its waterproof capabilites. The video quality is not the greatest but most of my footage was inside and when I took it out the back door it improved significantly, should be fine on a good, sunny day. Mount seems secure but I guess the ultimate test will come when I take it skydiving with me. The sounds is pretty sketchy as a lot of reviews state but I have heard that this is due to a rubber cover over the internal microphone which can be removed to greatly increase the sound quality (at the cost of water resistance). I think I will try this as I won't be using it near the water for the most part. Overall, a good quality cam for the price.
