Sony Bio Battery loves glucose
Sony Japan has just announced that its latest fuel cell battery eschews ethanol and methanol in favor of glucose as its source of power. The 4-cell array was demonstrated to power speakers hooked up to a Network Walkman after being duly filled with a squirt of grape extract and a tiny fan, utilizing sugar content found in a Gatorade-type sports drink. The Bio Battery, as it is dubbed, is capable of generating up to 50mW of power. I'm all for it, but I surely hope ants won't start end up starting a colony in my gadgets.

Hey, you could use this to power an embedded glucose meter for Type II diabetics. Sure, it'd only work when their blod glucose was high enough, but that's when they need to know what it is! 8-)}
