Trio of ultra hi-def Epson printers

Epson has spanking new printers that claim to be "ultra high-definition", but just how clear the printouts are remains to be seen. The three models are the R280, the RX595, and the RX680 that will ship sometime next month for $99.99, $149.99, and $199.99 respectively. The trio will feature six-color inks to help save cost in the long run, full bleed printouts, the ability to print on optical media like CDs and DVDs, and a blazing fast print speed of up to 40 pages per minute. You can hook them up via the standard USB cable or use an optional Bluetooth wireless adapter if you have jumped onto the wireless bandwagon already. Do expect to see rivals HP and Canon launch their "counterattack" soon.

I brought an RX680 from my local store. when I opened it the back of the printer was melted (yes the platic was all out of shape). I did not plug it in but rang Epson, they sent me a new printer. I plugged it in and it did not initialize correctly. I rang Epson again, they said they would send me another printer, it did not arrive. I then built one printer out of the two and got something that worked (sort of). Now no matter what I do I cannot set the default printing to the front tray, it defaults to the rear. I am fed up with this printer, this is the first and the last Epson product that I will purchase.

I was having major issues with my Epson RX680 not recognizing the inks. I use the same manufacturer of inks that I used for 4 years with my old Epson, so I know that these inks aren't "crap". I also got the same message using Epson inks. I called their support line and was sent out a new printer.

Be aware that they do not take the old printer back anymore, now another thing for me to recycle.

Hopefully the new one will work better, but if this is happening to others then it is doubtful. Guess we'll have to wait for their updated model to fix this issue.

I recently installed a new RX680 and am totally satisfied with it except for the noise and shaking when it starts to print. Anyone else notice this?
Thanks,
Bob

I bought the Epson CX9400Fax yesterday, and I too am getting the "cartridges not recognized" message. And these are the official Epson inks that were in the box with the printer! Their site's support pages were of no use, and so I decided to look for help through a search engine. I've discovered is that this problem is incredibly common with several models. And the only recommendation Epson tech support seems to offer is to return the printer to the store for an exchange. So yes, I'll be exchanging mine.... For an HP or Brother.

Bought new Epson RX680. I installed the original ink
cartridges that came with the printer... after many
tries... the printer still does not recognize the ink cartridges... Does anyone know how to solve this problem. Thank you.

In the long run, you have more issues wuth OEM cartridges than the genuine ones. Genuine are oblivously manufactured to Epson specs and standards. OEM carts are not. They many be cheaper at first, but they arn't made to specs, break down more often. Nozzles clog more often causing imagine problems that you might blame on the printer. So now, you are buying more OEM carts, more often. Where's the savings now ??? Trust me, it does not pay to you refilled, or OEM stuff on printers. It never has and it never will. Research it for yourself. You buy crap, you get what you pay for.

Bought it a couple months ago. Good quality, reliable in most senses. Paper jamming a HUGE problem, especially when auto duplexing... might as well not have the option... ink goes VERY quickly. But still a good printer besides the downfalls. Fast for text documents, easy to change ink easy displays. Epson really needs to do something about customer service though... and i think the ink and jamming problems are because we dont use genuine epson products. Jamming went away almost entirely after i bought epson paper

how do you set up bluetooth on the 680? I have a computer in the next room that needs access to the printer.

I just got the RX959 also and it will not recognize cartriges as well. So that's the problem?? Bad Cartages from the factory?? GREAT!! I am sure someone will come out with a refill device for these things soon.

I was told to send a question concerning the Epson RX595. It will not recognize the cartridges. Why? Thanks.

Got the RX680 for Christmas 'cause hubby knew I needed a new printer, and love to print my own photos. Well ...... it seems to be a good printer, at least until I checked for ink refills. It uses SIX cartridges at $19.99 per cartridge!!!! Egads. Don't know how much printing I can afford! And so far, I cannot locate compatible cartridges for this model.

Rx680 - First set of cartridges did not work at all - wait over a week for new ones from Epson, then after less than two days of printing (maybe 80 sheets of paper with text and graphics & 6 CD's), Black ink is out! Fine, replace with OEM Cartridges. Not recognized!? Great! Now I will wait another week for "genuine" cartridges. Worst part, SCANNER will not work in the meantime. HAY EPSON - not everyone lives next to an Office Depot. In FORCING consumers to buy their expensive ink, they have turned this potentially fine printer into a piece of junk!! But it makes a great paperweight!!
