LucidTouch could be the future

Posted on: October 12, 2007

Apple's iPhone touchscreen is innovative, but the multi-touch mechanism works poorly with those who have fat fingers, while the navigation process often obstructs the screen. LucidTouch by Wigdor and Patrick Baudisch is different as it lets users navigate using sensors located on the back of the device instead of the front. Talk about a simple yet effective paradigm shift. Not only do you get better performance as well as a clear view of the display, you will also benefit from a firmer grip which means a much lower chance of dropping your device. During use, the user's hands appear as shadows through the screen, making it look as though the device itself is transparent. Hopefully future refinements will see it appear on iPhone-esque devices sooner rather than later.

Publisher's note: At least, that's the idea... I don't see anything wrong with current front touch-display

This is horrible. An interface s good when it reflects natural movements and logic. This does just the opposite and is confusing.
