Assassins Creed does not work on my 40gig PS3 either. I got the model that comes with Spiderman. I have returned the ps3 twice and all 3 models fail to play the game. I also changed out the game with a new 1 at game stop. The game plays fine on my friends 80gig model however.

Sony say they have discontinued the 60GB so that the PS3 is more affordable. How do they work that out? Could people who could not afford a 60GB not just buy a 40GB in the first place? Does not make any sense whatsoever. I certainly am not buying one if a cant play PS2 games, it would be a pain having to switch consoles every time i wanted to play a PS2 game.

Why do people lament the drop of the multi card reader so much?? Big deal! Just go buy a dirt cheap card reader (that can read basically any memory card in existence) at your local PC store for under $5.00 and you stick it into the PS3's usb port. I don't even go via my card reader with my digital camera, i simly plug it directly into my PS3.
No PS2 support, fine, for some it might be a problem but most getting a PS3 will have at least one PS2 unit already so just hang on to that if last gen gaming is still your thing.
And I agree with John Fortin, the games will come.

It is not actually software based, 80gb version has GPU, 40gb does not.
Originally there were two chips (full ps2 hardware), then one (80gb dropped emotion engine), and now none (40gb). It is currently not possible to make software to cover ps2 hardware.

Note that the 60GB is going to be discontinued. 40GB and 80GB will be the only choices left.

I just bought one. The games will come, and I don't bother with PS2 games anyway..my XBox360 has great games and my Wii covers the bases.

I i am going to order one tonight. It seems fine, the price is right and hopefully it wont crap out like my last 3 360's! Fingers crossed, this generation has been bad news thus far.

Well i would have if the 60GB model wasnt made even cheaper...tho sony really does need to bring some games which are exclusive to the PS3 only then i may give it some consideration...but for now my PC has my full attention...
