Toshiba Gigabeat DAP prototype

The Toshiba Gigabeat DAP prototype that is currently on aprade at CEATEC Japan 2007 boasts a brilliant 3.2" OLED WQVGA display (428 x 240) that looks absolutely stunning. 3.2" in a widescreen format will definitely go a long way in making this a traveler's favorite where portable entertainment is concerned. No idea on when this prototype is scheduled for mass production though, but sooner is always better in this case. Don't you think it looks absolutely lovely? Do you think the final product will have what it takes to cause a notable chink in the iPod's armor?

Nice, Thanks. Now that I see the info, it seems clear that whoever created the term "WQVGA" intended to deceive. "Q" prepended to "VGA" implies higher resolution than VGA, which I now see is not the case. That said, I'm excited to see devices are coming that use bigger OLEDs for video display.

That's a very good point. WQVGA means 428x240 pixels. I have updated the post. We don't mean to be arcane-geeky, so thanks for reminding us when we are.

I don't know why undefined terms like "WQVGA" are used. While not meaningless, all I can tell is that the aspect ratio is wider than VGA, and that the number of pixels vertically may be more than 480. When pixel counts are missing, perhaps it's because they're not very impressive.
