Samsung has begun to ship its SpinPoint F1 Series 1 desktop hard drive that boasts 7,200 rpm spindle speed, low power consumption, a whopping 1TB capacity and a relatively low price tag of $399. Despite having such specifications, the F1 Series is touted to be Samsung's 'racing green' environmentally friendly drive, boasting a 2Gb/s SATA interface, optimized electronics, improved heat dissipation (Samsung claims this makes the F1 the coolest operating 1TB drive in the market today), and a power consumption of just 6.7 watts in idle mode and an average of 7.2 watts in random seek mode. SilentSeek technology keeps everything whisper quiet at 27 decibels in idle mode, enabling you to hear all the office gossip that is being whispered.
