Posted on Nov 28, 07 08:32 AM PDT

Toshiba weather radar system Toshiba has successfully delivered the first operational solid-state weather radar system in the world, replacing electron tubes in the transmitter with a high-power semiconductor module. This new radar has been miniaturized to such an extent where it is only one sixth the size of conventional equipment despite offering comparable output power, improved waveband efficiency and enhanced features. The first of such radars has already been installed at the Hydrospheric Atmospheric Research Center at Nagoya University, Japan. Performance of this new radar is reinforced by throwing in innovative features such as dual polarization observation and clear-air turbulence observation. [Press Release]
