Passengers in Houston can now board flights using their cellphone or PDA instead of a standard boarding past in a 3-month test program that was launched on Tuesday at the Bush Intercontinental Airport, with the potential of expanding this program to airlines and airports nationwide. Replacing the paper pass would be a two-dimensional bar code containing the passenger's name as well as flight information displayed on a cellphone or PDA that has been sent by the airline. Airport staff will then confirm the bar code's authenticity with a handheld scanner, although photo identification is still required. Just in case you run out of power on your cellphone or mobile device, you can always obtain a paper boarding pass from a kiosk or a Continental agent.
