LG eXPRESs S900 notebook
Posted on Dec 27, 07 10:42 PM PDT

LG's new eXPRESs S900 notebook blurs the line between a notebook and a desktop, boasting a massive 19" monitor with desktop computer components housed within. Frequent travelers who want something light and portable will probably have to forget about lugging this monster around as it is bound to result in sore shoulders after a while. Features include a 3.5" hard drive (250GB to 320GB capacities), an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, Windows Vista, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA's GeForce 8600 GT video card, a DVD Super Multi Drive, WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, a 1.3 megapixel camera and a handy multi-card reader. Unfortunately, the LG eXPRESs S900 notebook has a miserly battery life of just 30 minutes. If you're still bent on picking one up, it retails between $1,300 and $1,750.

I think the new LG s900 series is going to be a winner especially if your looking at a portable desktop replacement. Notebooks now are not just about the portability that they were once marketed as. A lot of people who own notebooks have them sitting at home on the desk and in theory they used like desktops. I travel perhaps twice a year to go home (I live in Korea, but am from NZ) and so having a notebook to take back with me is a lot better than owning a desktop and a notebook. I have a friend who recently sold his notebook to get a desktop replacement with a 22' screeen. It looks great but when he has to go back to NZ (he is in Korea too) or move apartments (we are teachers so every year or so we gotta move) its going to be hard. My 14' notebook acts as my TV/dvd player and computer. Occasionally I take it to my office and once or twice a year I travel, so carrying a 14 or changing to a 19 isn't much really. For students, carrying a 19' to class every day isn't practical and for business travellers it might not work but really how much of the market caters from uni students and business travellers. In Korea, as notebooks become bigger in specs and cheaper they are becoming really viable options to desktops. The advantage is that you can realitively easily move it now and again (much easier than a desktop). I was thinking about getting a desktop for home (as my 14' will be used more in my office) but not I am thinking of getting another notebook like the 19'. I think it will be great and much easier to move if my living arangements change. 2GM ram and 320 hard is sweet!! A one stop easy to plug in/plug out and go TV/Computer/dvd/gamer is what many people want and this 19'LG is going to work for people like myself.
