I guess this means digital watches will be changing in the near future to different shapes and sizes, although I would expect tradition to still play a big role where extravagant and bold fashion statements will still take a while to break through. These new e-ink Phosphor watches will retail for $250 upwards.

Why does it use mechanical hands (and a mechanical movement)? The hands could be displayed in e-ink, the way some LCD watches do. It would be more reliable and consume less power.

Without the mechanical movement, this thing could be thinner. It is 17 mm thick, according to Phosphor's website. Who wants a watch 2/3 of an inch thick?
