PSP to get streaming Internet radio

PSP owners will soon be able to enjoy the wonders of streaming Internet radio thanks to its firmware update 3.80. Currently, screenshots of the software abound, showing only "powered by Shoutcast" as a sneak peek. Other improvements include better OPML and image handling in RSS. Unfortunately, there is no word on a US release date yet so you will just have to wait for the suits at Sony to pony up an official announcement in due time.

I upgraded the FW 3.8 on my fat PSP after finding out the Internet Radio would be available. I installed the Shoutcast player and have had no problems with it playing the streaming music. The sound effects of static and morse code beeping when switching stations & genre is a bit hokey but I'm thankful for additional functionality without hacking.

I dont get why people are complaining about the interface...what you expect? Winamp 5.5 Vista styled interface? its a mobile device not a quad-core device, its hard to make a perfect interface to satisfy people like you for the PSP. I found it reasonable and content with. Least the wide range of stations is good, yes I would like to choose my own preset stations locally. But it nevertheless is a good new feature.

1) if u're slow, check your Power save settings, u might have WLAN power save on...which slows down your wireless speed

2)least the features on the PSP are so much better than what the DS can offer.

3)My streaming/connection worked fine with my cable wireless router at my home. Check your routers, if u're too far from your router...the connection strength will go down, thus the radio might get a bit erratic or not clear.

To install the radio station just select "About Internet Radio", make sure u got WLAN on, and just follow the simple instructions which then lead you to choose 1 of the 2 available stations.

Downloaded, Installed both radio softwares, Both work well.

Would like to choose other music feed sites as an option.

Would like a better screen interface.

It sucks really bad. You can turn the morse code off at the bottem of the screen. But really there isnt much to listen to, you can't search, and the application is REALLY flaky. Jesus Sony you wonder why people Homebrew the PSP. So glad that my Fat still has 1.5

just installed it, would have been nice to have a search function so I can listen to what I want and not preset genres. Maybe in the next release.
