Windows XP for the OLPC XO system
Posted on Dec 6, 07 08:58 AM PDT
Microsoft will soon run tests on the OLPC XO system with Windows XP, as the company mulls over its capability of providing a "high quality" implementation of Windows on the system that doesn't exactly rank high in terms of performance and processing power. While there is no official confirmation of Windows XP being an option for the system, it is said that a successful trial will see the XO laptop receive Windows versions sometime in the second half of next year. The inclusion of Windows XP would mean breaching the sub-$200 price point as Bill Gates won't be handing out copies of his beloved operating system for free.
