Acer to Launch Low-Cost Notebooks in the First Half of 2008
Jan 16, 08 05:59 PM PDT

Acer is going head to head with ASUS and its blockbuster Eee PC in the low-cost laptop space. Digitimes reports that Acer will get Wistron to manufacture these new notebooks. 8 and 9" LCD displays will come from AU Optronics. It is not known if Acer will design the notebook or if Wistron will do the job for them.
I don’t see how Acer will beat Asus in cost or design, given that Asus has more control over it and a good design team, but we’ll know soon enough. This move confirms the fact that good design, small size and low-cost is the “new cool” these days.
