BlackBerry, Reloaded
Posted on Jan 23, 08 04:40 PM PDT

Blackberry users might be interested by the fact that Research In Motion (or RIM) is going to improve the software capability by adding:
- Lotus connection: is someone still using Lotus?
- DataViz Documents to Go: Word, Excel and PowerPoint Editing on the go.
- Click-to-call: fancy phonebook
There are also Java and security updates.

I used to work for Philips and they use Lotus Notes as well. I don't agree with Using Lotus thought about his remarks about Lotus making you more productive. I found that it made me less productive due to the fact that your email is like a web page. If your network is down you don't have access to all of your email since they aren't really sitting on your computer, but on the server. A different approach, but one not that well suited to large businesses. I believe that Philips and the other F500 companies that use it are probably all based in Europe which has a distinctive anti MS bent.

There you go, my ignorance has been exposed for all to see. But you're right, if it boosts your productivity that's fair enough.
I probably met so many Lotus haters that it lead me to believe that Lotus was a relic of the past. Thanks for posting your opinion.

Your snide remark about "Lotus" exposes your ignorance. The preferred platform in F500 firms, Lotus Domino/Notes is now in in Version 8, and has well over 100 million daily users. The new program aiming Domino/Notes into Small-and-Medium Businesses will start showing small businesses how to be more effective. Of course, they could use (or lose) Microsoft's crummy products for eMail, but then they's have no applications, no programming/customization ability, no replication (you need it, but you don't know what it is), no integrated mail/fax/voice/Palm (and now Blackberry), all in a single business-focused platform. Lotus Domino/Notes may not be at "whizzy" as turtle-shaped USB devices or lights for your bathtub (products you've recently featureed)...it only makes people more productive. That no Gizmo; that's VALUE!
