National Geographic Star Gazer

[CES 2008] National Geographic keeps up with the times with the Star Gazer that was introduced at CES 2008. I know that star gazing is an activity that not many people indulge in, since it sounds rather boring and is too slow for the video-game generation. Hopefully something like the Star Gazer device will be able to pique the interest of folks in star gazing, and it is certainly worth packing for any camping trip thanks to the lightweight, durable and compact form factor. National Geographic claims that you will see five times more stars even in suburban skies with this thing, although I'd be more cautious with the actual performance. It currently retails for $199.95. Features of the National Geographic Star Gazer include :-
- Image Intensifier Tube Technology
- 500x Ambient Light Amplification
- Magnification: 3.0x
- Field of view: 68 feet at a distance of 200 feet, 12-degree angle
- IR Field of Illumination
- CR-123 or 3-volt lithium battery
- 12.3 oz
- 6.06 x 2.35 x 3.80
