Ricoh 500SE Scans Barcodes
Posted on Jan 24, 08 08:50 PM PDT

Ricoh has a new digital camera in the form of the 500SE that is capable of scanning barcodes as well. It supports all popular 1D barcodes and can scan barcodes optically through its lens, with the option to augment it with the SE-4 laser-scanning module whenever you are faced with workflows that require laser scanning. Scanned barcode information will automatically be embedded directly into a data area within the JPEG files, where an on-board 'data dictionary' will give allowance for extra user-defined information including the photographer's name or job number. Other features include 802.11b/g and Bluetooth connectivity for sheer wireless transfer bliss. The Ricoh 500SE retails for $899 while the SE-4 laser-scanning module is tipped to retail for $349.
