Samsung multi-level cell 128GB SSD

[CES 2008] Samsung has successfully developed the multi-level cell (MLC) flash-based 128GB solid state drive (SSD) that will come in 1.8" and 2.5" versions that target both notebook and desktop PC segments respectively. Samsung claims this new SSD offers a data writing speed of 70MB/s, which is touted to be the highest in the industry for MLC-based SSDs. In addition, Samsung’s 128GB SSD reads data at a purported 100MB/s. The 1.8" model is just 5mm thin, so we can expect to see ever smaller notebooks/UMPCs in the near future. Mass production of the 128GB SSD is expected to commence in the first half of 2008. Image on the right is the 64GB SSD. [Press Release]
