Synaptics Boomerang Universal Remote Concept
Posted on Jan 23, 08 09:06 AM PDT

Synaptics has a new conceptual interface that could become the future of touch-based devices, featuring "direct cursor control" that allows users to navigate to virtually every surface of the remote. Some of the gestures include Pinch, ChiralMotion and Momentum which translate into commands for volume, zoom and scrolling respectively. The Boomerang Universal Remote concept has been fitted with haptic feedback in addition to standard audio visual indicators that denote touchscreen use. Proximity sensors help bring the remote to life automatically whenever a couch potato approaches it. There is no word on when the Boomerang will hit the market, but hopefully this is one idea that won't return to its owner empty handed.
