Biometric Social Security Card: Is Anyone Looking At It Anyways?
Feb 12, 08 04:48 PM PDT

Politicians in Illinois are proposing to upgrade the paper version of the Social Security Card with a more secure version (I dislike to use the term tamper-proof, nothing is “proof”). The new card would feature a photo-ID, a fingerprint and a smart chip, along with your signature and date of birth. For non US readers: Social Security Numbers are widely used as unique identifiers by banks, so it is central to many ID theft schemes.
It’s nice, and may be even necessary, but no-one asked for my SS card for the past 8 years and I’ve bought a couple of cars and created a few accounts. It means that if the new card is created, then may be someone should actually look at it.

lol- that looks like a SIM card pin-out on the bottom right; I wonder if my SIM duplicator software would work on one of these?

This will make it easier for criminals to commit the really big crimes.

It's cool. I buy this idea. I go for it!
