Free Laptop With Mobile Broadband Service

Free Laptop With Mobile Broadband Service

Looks like folks who are signing up with 3's mobile broadband service will be getting a free laptop as well, although don't expect the latest and greatest model but instead one that does basic tasks just fine, i.e. surfing the Net, churning out some documents and making the occassional PowerPoint presentation. Unfortunately, the £350 will only land in your lap if you sell your soul to 3 for 18 months at £35 monthly. The USB dongle offers 2.8Mbps HSDPA connectivity with a maximum data allowance of 3GB and 200 texts per month. Anyone would like to see an offer like this Stateside?

Not really free: 3's 3GB 18 month contract costs $15 a month with its USB modem, for which you pay around £70 - or nothing if you are lucky enough to catch one of the specials. So you are paying an additional £20 x 18 = £360 for the laptop and the USB modem. True, you also get 200 free texts, but I think you can buy a cheap add-on package for that, and you probably already have texts with your mobile phone subscription. The offer could help someone who wants an entry-level laptop and doesn't want to pay up front, but no way is the laptop 'free'.
