HD-DVD Has Been Terminated

Gizmodo Japan have gotten their hands on the Toshiba Press Release (on the Toshiba website, apparently) before the Toshiba press conference even started.
The verdict: Toshiba will stop supporting HD-DVD, ending the format war that everyone was bored about. Facing a massive boycott from Hollywood, Toshiba had little choice, really.

You realise this is a good thing, concerning the fact that prices for the consumer will go down, dont you?
Toshiba abandoning hd-dvd means there is one STANDARD FORMAT, in this case blu-ray, with many many companies as members of the blu ray consortium manufacturing players/ drives/ burners for this one format, like: sony, samsung, philips, hp, pioneer, dell, apple and even more huge ones.
Did prices for vhs tapes skyrocket in the 80s when betamax kicked the bucket? No, prices went down steadily and due to having to only support one major format technology, the industry grew with each year - just like it will in the near future.
Although i do agree with you that this whole hd-ready/ full-hd/ super-hd/ interlaced vs. progressive/ 720 vs. 1080 vs. 1920/ etc. crap has gone a little out of hand and gets boring really fast...

You all realize what this means right? We are gonna have to shell out more money for movies and a new stupid player to watch some guy sweat high quality.
