Apple Safari 3.1 Launched

Apple has a spanking new version of its Safari 3.1 browser, with the Cupertino-based company touting it to be the "world's fastest web browser for Mac and Windows PCs." Folks at Apple are proud to gloat that Safari is able to load web pages 1.9 times faster compared to Microsoft's IE 7 and 1.7 times faster than Firefox 2. It also touts some pretty lithe athletic ability by running JavaScript up to half a dozen times faster compared to other browsers, and is the first browser which supports the latest innovative web standards needed to deliver the next generation of highly interactive Web 2.0 experiences. You will be able to download the Safari 3.1 browser here.

I like it! It's easy to navigate and webpages appear quickly. Webpages are also slightly larger because of the smaller toolbar along the top of the page.

The downsides? Well, Safari makes text look very smooth on my CRT monitor. I've tried changing the settings but it doesn't make any difference.

The bookmark (aka Favourites) takes up the whole page. I'd like the option of a "Quick Bookmarks" along the side of the page, a bit like the one on Internet Explorer.

Finally, the preferences menu doesn't have an OK or Cancel button so you can't change you mind about any changes you might have made to the settings.

Oh, and the grey toolbar at the top looks a bit dull.

However, I do find using Safari to be a great experience.

Downloaded the Windows version. I am OK with it. But the UI just does not work with Windows. Apple really needs to make it blend a bit better with the Windows UI.It's almost as bad as IE 5 was on a Mac.Firefox is still the IE replacement for Windows. I like IE7 too.
