Asus Eee PC 4G XP Hits Best Buy
Posted on Mar 30, 08 06:43 PM PDT

Best Buy will be carrying the Windows XP version of its Asus Eee PC 4G for $399 this April 9th - so those who have been hankering after this uber-mobile piece of computing will be able to break open their piggy banks a day earlier and start counting all those pennies and quarters. All the hardware will remain exactly the same as the Linux-powered version, with the only difference being the operating system. Somehow 512MB RAM and such limited memory makes me a skeptic - I guess I had best bring a portable hard drive with me wherever I go in order to complement the Eee PC 4G.

Got the Linux version and changed it to XP following the directions provided by Asus in the included manuual. It was simple and works great. I have it loaded with XP sP2 with the original hardware and including the 512 of RAM. I loaded Open Office and compressed the drive and still have 1.5 G available on the original SS drive. I loaded NAS software to acess 1 terabyte on my home network and worked like a charm. I have only had it for 3 days but so far it is awesome. It plays music and video stored on the network just fine and can be connected to home stereo receiver easily. It can also be conneted to a regular size monitor, keyboard and mouse and acts just like a regular size PC. Not bad for 350 ( did not get the camera one for 400). I highy remmend it.
