Edirol MP3 Player Stuck In The Past
Posted on Mar 14, 08 09:20 AM PDT

The only thing about the Edirol that makes it qualify to remain in the 21st century is this - MP3 playback capability. Other than that, the design is surely a huge turn off considering how we consumers have been enjoying far higher standards for quite some time already. Features include :-
- 24-bit audio playback
- SD/SDHC memory card slot
- USB 2.0 port
- 2 hours of recording time

This is a 96KHz update to a top notch WAV recorder that is in use by professional Sound Recordists in music and TV productions all over the planet. The mics are great, it has features that make it a breeze to capture sounds quickly and reliably. I can't think that many would bother using it as just an MP3 player as that is not what it is about.

I'm intrigued by the 'by Roland' part :)

I think you've grabbed the stick from the wrong end.. this is a recorder more than a player, and seeing that Edirol is into music equipment, the mics and peak indicator show that this device is meant for at least semi-pro recordings.

my first comment here got eaten by your system. so, the gist: don't judge a book by its ugly cover. yes, it's ugly. but so are other recorders in this area. could it be better? absolutely. is the design a disappointment? for sure. but the quality of the recording is surprisingly good, and for that i can accept poor design -- although i wish it wasn't the case. if i want cool design, i pull out the iphone or ipod.
