Rumor: NVIDIA to Buy Via?
Mar 18, 08 05:03 AM PDT

The folks at Digitimes are reporting that NVIDIA has been talking to VIA about a possible acquisition and that no agreement has been reached, yet.
Via is doing some interesting thing in the low-cost PC and embedded space. Via also makes X86 (Intel-compatible) processors, and if something was to happen, my interest would go towards this division because even a small entry from NVIDIA into the X86 processor space would be remarkable, even if making a high-performance X86 CPU (unlike VIA’s current offering) is extremely difficult and resource intensive (manpower, manufacturing capabilities…).
This is just a rumor. Via denies it and NVIDIA did not comment about this.
